Single chicken walking around on grass

This painting of a single chicken walking on grass, was painted at the end of 2012. It is painted in oils,on a red acrylic ground, in one six hour sitting. The size of the image is 10" x 8" and is created on a canvas board. I took a number of photos of chickens during the previous summer, with the aim of creating a fresh painting of the bird. I added more grass in to the background to make the chicken stand out better and give the painting a more organic look, rather than the concrete surface it was walking on in reality.
